Partners since 2024

Ratnagiri Estate, meaning Pearl Mountain, has been run by the Patre family since 1927.

Today, Ashok Patre continues that family history while constantly experimenting with how coffee is grown and processed. The estate sits beneath a dense shade canopy, with coffee growing as part of a much wider ecosystem rather than on exposed farmland.

Jon and Vip visited Ratnagiri in 2024 and returned in 2025. Time with Ashok showed us how much thought goes into the coffees here and why he’s such a leading voice in Indian coffee. That thinking runs through everything from the health of the soil and shade trees to fermentation, drying, dark rooms and processing.

Consistency, science and experimentation sit side by side at Ratnagiri. Their washed coffee now makes up around 25% of our Bean Blend, bringing body and structure to something we roast every day, while the smaller experimental lots give us the chance to work with coffees that are completely different
in character.

That combination matters: dependable coffee we can build a blend around, alongside smaller lots that keep us learning.
